A little about Rose Cottage...
|
|
The company's long association with Rose Cottage threads right through last century. It was the home of Clive Cooper from his birth until marriage in 1964. He moved back to Rose Cottage from 1977 to 1990. It was his father's residence from 1932 to 1977. |
|
Only 20 years ago the stables existed at the rear of Rose Cottage for the funeral horses. During the day the horses were kept in the meadow opposite (now known as Meadow Place) on which the Harcourt Close housing development has been built. |
|
Rose Cottage, believed to be 350 year old, has links with the funeral business which can be traced back to the 19th century. From 1856, the wheelwright who lived in the Cottage was also the undertaker. |
|
Clive Cooper said: "We are proud of our reputation as a traditional family firm, so this move back to where it all started has very special significance for the family". The photos above show the reception, arranging room a special feature of the premises are the National Competition winning stained glass windows in the Chapel of rest and throughout the property. A little about our Funeral Directors...

Grace has been training with us since leaving school and recently she sat, and passed, the National Examination for her Diploma in Funeral Directing. We believe that Grace is the only professionally qualified funeral director in Lewes. In keeping with our determination to ensure the highest standards in all that we do. Recently our Office and Chapel of Rest has been the subject of a makeover with a brighter exterior yet remaining in keeping with our special and prominent position within the Town Centre adjacent to the War Memorial. Sean Lyndon, has been training with us in Uckfield and has in the last year also achieved his Diploma in Funeral Directing. We believe that this makes Sean Uckfield's only professionally qualified Funeral Director. Based in the recently rennovated Rose Cottage, and with the occasional advice of Mr Clive Cooper, Sean has the best possible environment in which to care for the bereaved of Uckfield. |
