A little bit of history...
Messrs Tommy Bartley and John Ward founded Bartley & Ward in 1899 when they took over the running of a building firm run by the Gates family established in 1855. By the early 1900's they boasted such skills as building, plumbing, decorating and undertaking. All carried our from their premises at Cross Keys and Three Bridges Road.
In 1930 Hall Beddel & Co took over the business and moved its location to 58 Haslett Avenue West where it continued until 1969, when it ceased all trading, other than as Funeral Directors.
Today, Ballard & Shortall - incorporating the businesses of Bartley & Ward and Brinkhurst & Jackson - continues the proud tradition of its antecedent business. In Crawley, the business is still sited on Haslett Avenue West.
